nitrided distributor gear

nitrided distributor gear

building my 455 this summer, I am putting in a lunati hydraulic roller , I do not want to use a bronze distributor gear, anyone know who makes a nitrided one? other than dick miller( bit pricy if you ask me) any info would be appreciated

Why are you against the bronze gear? I’d rather replace a gear every couple of years instead of taking the chance of tearing up a cam.

To answer your question, I’m pretty sure comp cams offers a nitrided gear.

To answer your question, I’m pretty sure comp cams offers a nitrided gear.
Unfortunately Comp doesn’t make a nitrided gear for Olds .491 shaft dist. And I wouldn’t use a sacrificial gear either if I didn’t have to.
Dick Miller is the only one I know of and yes they’re pricey. That’s one reason why I’ve changed roller core suppliers. I’m now using the IG cores from Crane. They have an iron gear pressed on so you can use any dist gear you want.

thanks i guess i will get the one from dick miller , I have the cam so just have to roll with it , just don't want to worry about the brass one, this is not a race car i am working with so it has to be reliable

Good to know . Thanks Mark i will not worry about my distributor gear for my hydraulic cam now.

You'll need a melonized gear as you have the same core as the op. But with a .500 shaft they're readily available from MSD.
