IGN switched power, not battery.

Yeah.

If it's connected to the battery, the engine will never turn off .

Now you guys are freaking me out. Attached is a reference pic showing the original setup w/ blue wire going to the batt side (right), and the red w/stripe going to the tach side (left). There is no IGN stamped, molded or labeled on either HEI. Look through the dust and grease and you can see the original setup there in the back. That's how I've done the replacement. After 6 months without running, when I start it, I definitely want to be able to shut it off.

The wire from the IGN terminal of the ignition switch goes to the BAT terminal of the HEI.

Now that you mention it, I guess it IS sort of confusing, since everywhere else in the car, BAT means unswitched battery power.

Your connections look right to me, and those plugs only fit one way anyway, I believe.

thx for the pics, they really clear things up! i agree with MD, it looks correct. my only concern would be the gauge of the blue wire-it looks a little thin. the factory generally used a 12-gauge wire(i have seen where they used 10-gauge) to prevent misfire at high speed issues. it isn't about the average power draw, it's about the instantaneous power in-rush, or impedance. when the module switches on, you want the power there NOW to quickly saturate the primary field windings.
