HEI Distributor needed in UK

Since reading the thread a few posts down in this category, i've decided i need to get myself a new HEI distributor to replace my points system.

I've found various "red top" versions on fleabay but the potential quality of these units worries me a bit.

My budget is low so a high spec performance unit is out of the question, however i've read that a stock HEI unit from a later model will work just fine?!

Obviously the main problem in getting one of these is the fact that i'm in the UK and I can't find anyone here that has one sat around gathering dust, so my mission is to find someone with a second hand unit in America who is willing to sell and send it to me here in England.

I have Paypal so can arrange payments immediately.
Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance

You might consider purchasing a Pertronix kit for your points distributor. These are reasonably priced and easy to install. They use the stock distributor and an aftermarket variable reluctance system. Plus you don't have to worry about fitting your stock air cleaner housing around the large HEI distributor cap.

I recommend the basic Pertronix kit. I believe it is called the FlameThrower. I had one in my 1964 98. It worked great and only took about 15 minutes to install.

THANKS GUYS!!!

I searched the web and found these guys.

http://www.vintageperformance.com/retrorockets/

They supplied me a Pertronix Ignitor 1 Points System with Lobe Sensor and a new Flame Thrower Coil for £89.00. Really easy to install and the Lobe Sensor means no mods to the distributor shaft are required.... and.... Oh my God!!! I have now found where those missing horses were hiding!

The difference in UNBELIEVABLE!!!, and i still need to dial the carb in and set the timing properly. This car is turning out to be the beast i had always hoped it was!!!

TOP TIP!

Apparently our Olds' will only work with the "LS" version of the kit, so if anyone is planning the upgrade be sure to get the right one.
