HEI in a 68 442

Has anyone installed an HEI distributor in a 68 442? Are there any clearance issues? I am ready to purchase a distibutor for my motor, and would like to install an HEI setup, but I heard there might be clearance issues. Any suggestions? Should I stick withstock distibutor?

With some older after market 4 bbl intakes there can be a clearance issue there is a hump on the back of the intake that will not let it a hei fit on my original Oldsmobile 4 bbl intake mine works fine.

If you have any clearance problems you can always install a Pertronix conversion. They work great. I don't think I have ever heard of anybody haviing any problems with them. Then if you are purist, nobody can tell since it uses your original distributor.

I am using the stock manifold, so I am hoping I will not have the clearance issues the aftermarket manifolds have (from what I have heard). Would I be safe in saying that?

converted a stock 72 350 and a 72 442 to a GM HEI with no problems. Don't forget to remove the resistor wire!
