fuel pump

my car kept feeling like it was ruining out of gas. i have a clear inline fuel filter before the pump and when the car was ruing the fuel filter would look like it was sucking in air and then some gas and then some more air and back and forth. now i know i have plenty of gas in it just bought 13 gallons of it. so i go to adv discount auto and get a new fuel pump 25 bucks and it looked as if it fixed the problem but earlier today it started doing it. can it just be my luck on fuel pumps is bad and this one is defective too or is there something else that's messing this up. a fuel pick up in the gas tank maybe? thanks for the help

Might be something blocking the fuel line.

Try running it with the gas cap loose, if it is old enough there is a vent in the cap that might be plugged. Or posssibly a rust hole or cracked rubber line.

I remember crawling under cars and checking the rubber line at the tank which kinks closed with age ...

If the hose feels spongy replace ...

I you run a hose from fuel pump to a supply of gas, like a can you can tell if the problem is up stream or down ...

I had two fuel pumps from the cheapo parts house fail in a row on my 455 before I bought a good one from NAPA not unheard of. But I would check the rubber fuel lines and vent lines as suggested above first. Sure sounds like it is sucking air or vacuum lock

idk

I tried replacing the fuel lines today the by the fuel tank feels spongy so to change that i have to drop the tank right and then just pop the new line in. but the one I can’t get is that’s in-between the long metal rail that goes down the side of the car right by the front wheel

And it seems that the line is a little rusty-not good.
Any pinhole (even a rust pinhole) will cause it to suck air rather than fuel.
Good luck!!!

how big was the gas tank for the 442 i can find on of those for about 50 bucks. so are they interchangeable i guess if the mounting hole is the same thats good but if the 442 tank is 20 gall instead of the 98's 25 then ill just show that iv run out when i still have gas. right?

Angry Sucks

A fuel or brake line is also likely to have a rust hole right at the location of the clip so check there too...

the 442 pickup was too small. can i run a rubber hose all the way down by passing the metal fuel line and then just zip tie it down places.
