Correct Hose Clamps for 1970
Hi Guys,
Yeah, another detail question. Radiator and heater hose clamps. Most of the resto suppliers say both the Wittek tower clamps and the dual wire hose clamps are correct for a 1970 application, but I rarely see the dual wire clamps used in restorations. Are both types of hose clamp really correct for 1970? I did find one dual wire clamp on the upper radiator hose of my car, but have no idea if it's original or not.
thanks,
bob

You can see the correct clamps in your assembly manual. (If you're asking this type of question and don't have an assembly manual, shame on you).
For 1970, double-wire clamps were used on the upper and lower radiator hose and the thermostat bypass hose. 3-prong pinch clamps -- similar to those used on fuel lines, but larger -- were used on the heater hoses, both at the water pump and at the firewall (and heater control valve).
The tower style clamps were not used at all. Anyone who's telling you differently should not be trusted for Olds advice.

Hi Brian,
No shame.....I've got the factory manual. But in the past I've found the factory manual to be less than accurate. They tend to use pics from the previous model year for things or even a few years back. In this case I did find a pic of the twin wire clamps on the radiator hoses in the Engine Cooling section, but can't find a pic anywhere of the heater hose clamps. There is a pic of the heater hoses in the Heater section in the front of the Service Manual, but the pic is too small to make out any clamp detail. So thanks for the info!!
regards,
bob
