Coil resistor wire

Trying to figure out if this is the resistor wire, The CSM shows a 12ga pink wire coming from ignition to the engine dash connector, and then Black/Pink wire from there the positive on the coil. Is that whole wire itself from the bulkhead connector to the coil a resistance wire? Looks like mine might have been spliced into some pictures below. Also I have 6-7 volts with ignition on, and 11.8 volts with engine running at the positive on the coil.

The black and yellow wire go back into the loom and into the firewall by the fuse block.

Yes, the entire wire is a Nickel-Chrome resistor wire.

The wire that runs from the butt splice to the coil I'll assume is a plain wire. The black wire, if it runs to the bulkhead connector and is stiffer than a copper wire is probably the resistance wire. The yellow should run to the starter solenoid.

Would the coil have 12v at the + terminal running, if one of those were a resistor wire? The CSM shows one black/pink leaving the firewall and I have a black and a yellow wire butt spliced into one pink going to the coil.

As Kenneth noted, the entire wire from the Engine and Dash cowl connector to the coil is a resistance wire. As such, the running voltage at the coil should be about 9. If it's not 9 V, you will need to replace the existing wire with the correct black/pink resistance wire.

The only other wire to the coil + terminal should be a yellow wire. That wire runs from the R terminal on the starter solenoid and provides full battery voltage to the coil during cranking. If your starter solenoid has been replaced with one without the R terminal, run the yellow wire from the S terminal to the coil.

If you wire from the S terminal, put a diode in the yellow wire to prevent feedback to the starter solenoid.

A black wire is the only one connected to the coil − (negative) terminal. It goes to the distributor.

If you have other wires connected, disconnect them and tape them to avoid shorts until you straighten out the wiring.

Good Luck!

Gary
