Resistance coil wire

Wondering the purpose of the factory wire to coil positive marked as "resistance wire do not cut". I have a Pertronix unit and original installer used factory wire plus a switched wire to coil positive.

Thanks.

The purpose is to reduce the voltage to the points while the car is running so they don't 'burn up'. It reduces the voltage to roughly 8v while running.
Your Pertronix requires 12v to run effectively. You can just remove the resistance wire and replace it with standard wire or use it to switch a relay that supplies 12v

Did you check it while it was running?

Nope. Working on wiring now. I thought that might have an impact. I will not use factory wire. Thanks

Good info there Eric. MAD enterprises is also an excellent site to learn wiring and charging info. I am converting the previous owners 1 wimpy wire alternator set up to 3 wire internal regulator. With a lot of reading and asking a few questions I actually feel comfortable with the re-wire.
