Carburator choice

Hi guys, what carburator do you suggest for a daily driver/street racer mildly rebuilt Olds 468? I am running a edelbrock rpm air gap square bore intake, comp cam solid lifters, iron heads. I prefer holley carbs.

Quick Fuel SS or Diamond series 850. You'll need to go up a size or two on the jets if your build is healthy but otherwise it'll be real close out of the box.
Did you cut the center divider down on the RPM?

No the RPM is still stock. Do you mean cut the center divider down so the intake will look like a single plenum intake or just shave the center divider down? If I should remove the divider, why is that for?
Should I go 850 cfm carb?

Cut the center divider down about 3/4-1". Yes an 850 as mentioned.

Ok thanks, but why should I cut the divider down? Is it a flow issue, or a carb base issue? Can't I keep it stock?

you might want to call edelbrock on cutting down the center divider, easy to do, but hard to undo. get their opinion, I mean they designed it.

i would also contact holley's tech line for advice on carb selection

good luck with your project

Because that intake had a small plenum, comparatively speaking.

Ok, so should it look like bernard mondello's procomp intake after the cutting?

And is this Eddy RPM intake a good one? HP and torque speeking, what are your remarks and suggestions about it?

Have you considered the Summit carburetor? It is a clone of a Holley 4011 and uses 100% Holley parts. I have one on my mild street driven 455 and it works great! Plus, it won't break the bank.

What's your estimated hp level?

Cutting the divider also helps to allow the cylinders that need slightly more gas/air to get it. If cylinder 1/2 need slightly more(no engine is perfect), they can "draw" it from any other place that may not need it.

I've never tested this carb before and actually never heard about it. Maybe i will try it on another build.

Can you do this to a low budget street build Performer as well?

Holley HP 950 works for me...

Have Dan Davinci here in Houston build you one, you'll be happy you did.

Ain't the 950 too big for a street application?

Don't tell my 468 BBO that, it might get its feelings hurt.

Without knowing your cam /head work, compression, etc nobody is going to give you a super accurate recommendation. Call Davinci and have all your engine specs in hand...he'll build you a holley that's just right.

Based on all my dyno experience, a well tuned QF or similar will work well for you. An 850 will still pull over an inch of vacuum at wot at that power level. That's what you're looking for.
