Cam recommendation for new motor

I am looking for some cam recommendations for my new motor, 70 455 block .030 over, silvo-lite 1631-030 pistons, 4bbl cast iron intake, w&z exhuast manifolds and C heads with hardened seats and air bumps removed, so basically pretty much stock I guess, currently I have stock converter, th350 and 2:73 open, I'm hoping next year to go to 3:23 or 3:42 and 2000 stall, but the trans and rear just are not in the budget now. I just drive the car on the street, not at the track. Looking for a recommendation on a good cam to run that is fairly reasonable, the budget is pretty tight now seeing this is motor #2 for the year

The trans, converter and gear will play a big difference in how the car runs with a particular cam. So as long as you can deal with some "sluggishness" for now until you get all of that sorted out then you should be fine.
Something like this would probably be what you are looking for with your end plans.

Not a bad choice for what the op has.

cam

Is the Erson TQ40 really 220/280 @ .050? Seems high on the exhaust?

Isky 264-MEGA HYDRAULIC

It has a 108 LSA and about 215 duration at .050

Common cam from many sources and may even be found at Rock Auto for under $40. Depends on what you want.

No, it's 228 @ .050. It's a misprint that needs to be addressed.

Mark (cutlassefi) is a cam guru, he has helped many with their cam selection.

What would be better, 108 lobe separation or 110 lobe separation? I like torque, and if I'm understanding correctly, the 108 would give me more torque

Right you are, but as you narrow the LSA you increase the overlap, and so will lose some vacuum, so to keep the overlap from growing you decrease the duration slightly, but that give you even more torque. And if you have a 2000 stall converter and lower compression, with a high geared rear, that should do the trick and give you more torque where you actually need it.

I would guess it should be fine as long as you keep the duration numbers short. You may or may not change out the gears and converter next year. Things work out that way many times.

Now, if you do want to you might consider changing to a 700r4 next year, with only about a 2000-2200 and something stall.
