I'm thinking of purchasing either the comp cams xtreme energy hydraulic roller cam model 42-423-9 with advertised duration of 276 intake, 282 exhaust, .505 lift intake and exhaust, 110 degree centerline , RPM range 1800 to 5600 or the 42-433-9 with advertised duration of 290 intake, 296 exhaust, .515 lift intake, .533 lift exhaust, 110 degree centerline, RPM range 2200 to 6000. I recently had to remove my 455 after losing a freeze plug and overheating. Block was NOS with 4.129 bore, Eagle H beam rods, Melling high volume blueprinted oil pump, Miloden 7 qt. pan and pickup, Edelbrock aluminum heads, Smith brothers 3/8 hardened push rods, guide plates, Scorpion roller rockers 1:6 ratio, CP custom racing pistons with 15 cc dish, O deck, L69 tricarb manifold with 3 rochester 2G carbs. Cam was a mechanical solid with 285 advertised duration intake,294 advertised duration exhaust, .568 lift intake, .545 lift exhaust on a 108 degree centerline. Would either of these be a good choice for a high performance street/strip application? If not, why? Recommendations, please!

I own a BBC 454 .060 over in a 1966 pickup and I run the AD .574/ lift 110, hydraulic roller, I love it, very streetable and maintenance free (no routine lash adjustments). As far as you going down on lift/duration, you're just moving your power band down a notch. if you race it, what was your RPM when you crossed the trap? If you were low on RPM's at the traps with your .574 then moving it down will give you a quicker 1/4 mile and a more efficient trap speed. the BBO's are so torquee that you can move down on the cam from where you are and still be plenty happy with the trap speed/RPM. Hydraulics for the street and solids for the strip. If you don't race it, it's totally preference, the bigger the cam, the higher the RPM's required to make the cam efficient. gl, Mark
