Break intake manifold loose

Hello,

Working on my '70 442 - replacing intake gasket, even though rebuild was within 15k miles. Having difficulty getting the manifold to break loose (still in car). I can't seem to get the crowbar, or equivalent, anywhere to get some good leverage. Any tips on this? Also, is there a suggested solution that can be applied and will dissolve the gasket over time; similarly to breaking rusted hardware loose? I did the intake on my Rallye a few years ago and that thing broke loose a lot easier than the 442.

Thanks in advance.

Take the water neck off and pry up through the thermostat hole.

Or if the lift loop is still on the left side, put a pry bar through it and lift.

If the lift loop is still in place, that means that the intake is still bolted to the block.

I usually use a large flat blade screwdriver in the front rubber end seal, between the intake and the block. That surface is not as critical as the intake to head surfaces, and I use RTV there instead of the rubber anyway.

I often go to bed with a problem and wake up with a solution at hand!

Make darn sure you have all the bolts out. The method Joe stated works great. However, it works so well that if you leave a bolt in you will break the intake. So double check. (you know how I know this right?)
