big car aircleaner base-HELP HELP
Guys I spent alot of time fabbing this dual snorkel air cleaner for my 64 F-85 build and never figured in I would have hood clearance issues. Questions is did any of the big cars use a drop base air cleaner? ( for a Q-jet so I'm thinking what, 66 on up?) The one pictured is from a 66 Starfire ( took the snorkel off of one and fabbed into another) and it did not have a drop base. Maybe a Toro, Eldo?

This is what I had to use on my car for hood clearance.

Could you use the base from something like this one. They are $30 or so

1971-442 It looked up the foot notes and they claim it will work with a Qjet. I am also running a Lokar throttle cable that has a bracket bolted to the back of the carb base. But if can get close I can fab it up a bit. Thanks for the tip.

That base uses a 14" round filter that I recommend, and I believe you can use it with a rochester. I have one on my car but no rochester carb to try it on. See if the one on your 67 will fit under the twin snorkle, I'd be curious to know.

This was a quick test fit on my 65. I believe this is a 66? Toro cleaner and uses the "standard" 14x3 air filters. I actually gained hood clearance over the aftermarket moroso air cleaner assy. Q-jet drop base, recess in the rear for the distributor, dual snorkels. I know a guy who has a few more of these for sale.

My car originally came with a 403 engine, which is known to have a drop base air cleaner. Has a 455 in it now, with a tuned Q-Jet, and the modified original air cleaner. Looks like "Bill in NC's" and good idea grabbing fresh air, before the hot radiator. No one hears you coming either.
