Here in Nothern VA, I've been snapping up any 455 long blocks I can find for under $250. I end up getting about one every year or so. Got a complete 1968 455 short block at Carlisle a couple of years ago for $50.
Well, to me that's all a core would be worth (and frankly I'd rather pay less). What it's worth to you is a function of how badly you need it and how long you're willing to look for a good deal. This is why I've been picking them up when I see them - I've got a pile in the barn for a rainy day.
For me, it depends on the condition of the junk.
I won't give over $150 for a complete unknown core Olds 455 nowadays.
Most of them are either abused or rusted to hell around here. There's no such thing as buying one from a little old lady anymore.
You either get one from a clown that "souped it up" with incorrect parts, or from a DONK kid that drove it until it started knocking.
99% of the farm boys are Chevy guys, and leave the Olds lumps to rot in the back field, or in a muddy corner of the barn where the racoons drink.
