Well after all that I ended up buying it form Jegs. No shipping fee or sales tax
made the difference!

Now off to find an impact wrench!

Well,

Got everything apart. I borrowed a puller and installer from Pep Boys and bought a 1/4" x 1" x 3' piece of steel and drilled 2 holes to mount to the balancer. I used the handle off my floor jack as a persuader and loosened the bolt. The balancer came off easy. I loosened the bolts on the pan enough to pop the cover off. I have to wait a week for the cover but it was a successful day in Olds land!

Jeeze, I can't imagine why it leaked...

 

By the way, be sure to check the balancer for scoring where the seal rides on it. You can get the repair sleeve to fix it to prevent chewing up your new front seal.

The balancer looks good, should be an easy assembly. (Now I just jinxed myself!)

How's the timing chain while your in there? Those things are notorious for stretching and the nylon gears wear considerably with age.

 

This is a brand new engine, just didn't replace the timing cover. The chain is brand new.

Did the balancer come off without using the puller?

 

Yep

I used the puller I borrowed from Pep Boys. The bolt was the hard part!
