I can't believe that adding weight is ever a good way to may a car faster/better handling/better performing. Fix traction problems with tires and suspension (and judicious application of the right foot).
Drag cars use ballast because most classes have a minimum weight requirement. You build the car lighter than that then add the weight back where it does the most good. Street cars don't have a minimum weight requirement, so making the car lighter is the same as adding HP.

But now i realize i should have just made my car lighter rather than just putting a bigger engine............LOL. Although that 330 was stuck anyway.
