455 Long Block Help

Hey everyone,

sorry if this is the wrong thread, if so please direct me to the right spot.

I just purchased a 1970 442 with a 455 long block. I have had no luck finding a rebuilt 455 anywhere. I reached out to BMR to see if they can rebuild mine but i am in AZ and they are in CA.

Does anyone know if a shop that speclizes in Olds motors in AZ preferably in the valley, or somewhere i can find a rebuilt motor?

If you can’t find a shop out there I ship engines everywhere.
Best of luck in your search. Thanks.

Do yourself a favor. Let Mark (Cutlassefi) build you a motor.

There are 1 or 2 machine shops in the Phoenix, AZ area that know how to work on Olds 455 blocks.

What is wrong with the engine, does it need a rebuild or is it just the route you wish to go? Asking because many engines that don't need full rebuilds end up with "new" problems after rebuilds by inexperienced shops.

Good luck with finding the right shop locally or look into the cost of shipping it to one of our members that are experienced Olds guys. I didn't say "old guys." In addition to looking for Olds experience watch the promised turn around times.

Best of luck!!!

I got a 455 that was sitting for a while, does turn over by hand. Don't know how many miles on it, probably alot and took heads off, bores look good, have not got to the lower end yet. Just weighing my options closer to home.

65-330 if the pistons are good on yours and have enough compression maybe you could re-ring it, inspect the crank and see how it looks.

Good luck!!!

Robert Nesch can easily handle your 455 build in Phoenix, very competent machinist and builder and will not screw you. 31 ave and Union Hills 623 582-1859
Greg Gruelich is very good as well, Same with TA performance.
