455 into a 1967 '88?
I have the engine pulled from my 88 and it needs some machine work and stuff - it could run me a few $. As an alternative, I see quite a few 455's for sale, are they a straight drop into a 1967? (I'm concerned really with engine mount location and tranny hookup).
Thanks

The 425 and 455 are externally identical. I recently dropped a 455 into my 67 D88 in place of the 425. The only difference is the crankshaft flange bolt pattern. You'll need to use a 1968-1990 flexplate in stead of the one on the 425. Transfer everything else to the 455 - starter, exhaust manifolds, water pump, accessory brackets and pulleys, etc. I also swapped the oil fill tube and intake manifold for optical reasons. This is not necessary but I wanted mine to look like the original 425.
Note that you may want to swap the 67 intake onto the 425 to allow you to retain the original carb and throttle linkage. The 68-up cars used a cable throttle and the carb fitting is different. Also the choke is different. You can swap to a later model carb and intake but you'll need to do some fabrication on the throttle linkage and the kickdown switch may not work as a result. This is why I kept the original intake.
