'65-'66 big car, big block power steering belt length

Just a quick note to say that Gates #7630 at 62 5/8's" works well for the 65-66 big car power steering pumps. These pumps are old-style mounted high on the driver's side. I believe these big reservoir pumps began in '63 or so. I think Olds changed to smaller, lower mounting PS pump in 1968 or so. But don't quote me. Others know better I'm sure.

I got the 7630 belt for the new PS pump in my '66 98 last week. It fit perfectly. I got the '66 Starfire out of storage today and found the same belt was already there. Cool: job already done.

Other lengths will sort of work but the 7630 above seems the best based on my 2 '66 big cars. My Napa guys say this is an "old"number, hence the belt length reference in inches.

The Gates 7619 is too short and leaves the pump cocked outward toward the driver's fender (if you can slip it over the pulley), longer belts leave the pump cocked inward.I like the PS pump with the cap top close to horizontal.

The 7630 does that well. Just in case anyone is hunting for a parts number or belt length that will help.
