455 intake manifold question.

455 intake manifold question.

Just had my 1968, 98, 455 rebuilt. I notice that the paint has burnt off the intake between number 3 and 5 cylinders. What is causing this? Thank you.

That is where exhaust passes to heat the manifold/carb for winter operation. It is normal. It passes there always but is designed for winter operation.
