455 Intake Manifold comparison

Hi Guys,
Took a break from assembly and packing up another.
A couple of you have ponied up, thank you.
But there are some on here and on ROP that complain about trying a Torker, but don't want to help.
I already have all the dual planes I need. I THINK I'll have time to do either a Torker or HSD as well, and I already have the SD so if you guys want to work amongst yourselves then I'd be happy to do everything I can to have a Torker in the mix.
Please remember this is my time/money, and the owners engine. If it comes down to it and I only have time for 3, then what do I do? The Performer, Air Gap and OL4B? Or the Performer, Air Gap and Torker? You can argue amongst yourselves. You could make a case for both scenarios.
Should be on the dyno by this friday or next monday.

I had a Torker all boxed up for this weeks ago.
I was informed from Mark that he probably wouldn't have time for it though,
so I didn't waste the shipping money on something big that might not even get used.
I sent out the thermostat housings and that's the last I visited this thread. Sorry guys.
I see defiant1 has an intake waiting as well, and Red is throwing in $20 for strippers, er....shipping.
Someone please let me know what the heck is going on here.

It's a Victor Jr.How's that?I had my custom-built headers coated by the same company.Instead of simply spraying the gin inside the header tubes, they cap one end,and fill the entire tube, then uncap & drain.Coats like Pepto.
As for the intake. The way you see, with the 1" Wilson ported 4-hole spacer,Holley 830,drop base,3" filter, and filter top,my Olds rocket spinner wing nut had a few rub marks from contacting the hood a few times,so it barely fit.

So what does the coating do? Does it smooth out the air flow inside the intake? Or keep it cool? Or both?

I want to thank everyone for having their heart in the right place here, but no shipping donation $$$ made it on the 20th or 21st, so it wouldn't have gotten there in Mark's hands by tomorrow morning for the dyno session.
With 30-40 bucks 1 way, plus the same for return shipping to get my intake back, with the possibility of it not even being used....
I just didn't have the backup I needed to jump into battle on this one.
Sure, I could have fronted the whole thing, and hoped or begged for money later, but that's just not my style.
I am not sad, angry, or disappointed. I am still excited to see the results of this cool project. Thanks again Mark for sharing it with us.

That stuff looks good on your seriously modified Torker intake Brian.

Short block is done, just trying to set some time aside for the rest. Been doing some home improvements and a honeydew list. Should be back on it early next week.
Thanks for the response guys, I'll keep you posted.

Ok guys I am looking at an rpm air-gap intake the Carb pad hight is 5.54" and you guys are running Torkers carb pad hight 5.05" do any of you run a 1.00" spacer? If so dose it fit under that stock ram-air hood? Did you have to do any mods to make it fit? And what kind of air cleaner do you have if it dose fit? I know it is a lot of questions sorry for that but I can't seem to find any answers.
#112
What do you suggest for a dropped air cleaner ? I might try a different manifold if it will help the mid range without hurting the top end too much. I heard the Edelbrock O4B manifold is close to being an aluminum copy of the stock intake
Thanks

It will be interesting to see the results from the different runs with the different intakes and with and without spacers. Spacers are funny. Murphy and his family like to intervene in the worth of spacers. I've seen a spacer work exceptionally well, work moderately well, and work dismally bad, often without a logical reason that's readily apparent. As for intakes themselves, I'm kind of stuck using Offy 360 highrises ever since the late '60s. I know, stuck in the mud. But I do seem to get very good results from the Offy 360s on an Olds engine, particularly a big block.

I'll make a prediction, for the record I think the RPM will smoke all the combinations, even on this mild build. It's plenum is actually smaller than the regular Performer but the runners are larger and more direct.
We'll see!

Dyno day tomorrow Guys!!!!!!!
Still haven't had many predictions, anyone want to stick their neck out!!
I hope I get it all in tomorrow but just by a visual I'd say the RPM Air-Gap first, the regular Performer 2nd and the OL4B last.
I'm just sayin'

I'll stick mine out...I think the regular performer is going to do better than the RPM. It's too bad you didn't get a torker...I think that would've out performed all of them.
By chance are you going to play with spacers?

Yes time permitting I'm trying different spacers. I have a Holley sd that I will try if possible but I have to disagree, I think a torker would be somewhere between the performer and the rpm.
