Flatheads were pretty much over, by '57, when Pontiac invented it. Seems like all the "wannabes" (you know, the same ones who know about the 442 CI/442 HP Oldsmobiles) started calling 3 Holleys, on on an Edelbrock manifold, "Tri-Power" to make themselves sound "cool".

They had 2 barrel carbs. Most commonly called 3 pots, 3 carbs, or 3 carb manifold.

Tri-Carb referred to L69 only, just as J-2 was '57-'58 Olds only and Mopar was called "Six-Pack".

Made a Lot more sense than Ford's "6 barrel carburetor".
