1972 Toronado coolant amount for fresh radiator
My ‘66’s with 455’s take 17 quarts or ~4.4 gallons with overflow (aka puke) tank installed and a 16lb cap.
When I pull the radiator hoses I’ve taken to refilling with 2 bottles of water wetter, 70% distilled water & 30% antifreeze.
My rationale is that water transfers heat better than antifreeze, water wetter helps keep things cool through the magic of chemistry, antifreeze is mainly there for the lubrication it imparts to the engine.
If freezing is a part of your annual experience, go with the more ordinary 50/50 mix, water wetter optional. Here in the SF Bay Area, we don’t get to freezing too often, so I worry more about overheating in traffic.
With luck you’ll get a response from someone with more knowledge about ‘72 Toro’s than me, but here’s a starting point.
