1959 394ci Edelbrock or Holley carb.
Hi all,
After spending $670 on the four barrel Rochester by a so called pro to fix, the carb still runs crappy. So I am really happy!
I took matters into my own hands. As I am a tappet head from way back, I just happened to find a brand spanking new Holley carb (600, vac secondary, man choke) in my shed and threw it on with an adaptor plate. And yes, this did fix the carb problem. No bogging down at all now.
I actually need that carb for my Chev so it cannot stay on the Olds.
I am moving away from Rochester as no-one seems to, or want to, touch them here. Reco's from the states including postage are the same as a new carb at the store here.
Question Is:
What would you guys/gals recommend for the Oldsmobile?
Input greatly appreciated.
Thanks
John.
Edelbrock and why
or
Holley and why?

On my 64, 394 i had an edelbrock 1406 600cfm on it and it ran great. But i had to manually shift it as the linkages to the slimjim trans. So i had a older mechanic rebuild the 4 gc, and it runs much better the edelbrock, more power mainly. But he really knew his stuff and adjusted it to my motor, all for a case a beer too. So if you can get all the linkages to work right i think either the holley or edelbrock would be fine.

Finally got the Holley on, a bit of work and it runs o.k. Still goes through the gears without the mechanical gearbox linkage connected, just the throttle is connected. Not as 'gutsy' as the Rochester however will get me out of strife until my reco motor from the States arrives in a few months.
At least I can drive it around.

The new Street Demon carb is an improved version, all new castings carb. It will fit spread and square bore intakes. The only problem mentioned above is hooking up your shift rod.
