body tag info needed
Why is the trim tag information in the 442/W-Machines restotion book wrong? I've seen several body tags for a 1968 442, and none of them have the "TR" format that they describe in the book.
In any event, was I was preparing my car for shipping yesterday, I found the following trim tag in a box of parts, and I'm sort of wondering what I have and why this guy had it. It kind of looks fake due to the weird placement of a "5" above the "BODY" writing, and a slightly indented "2" before that. I'll try to take some photos of it tonight, but in any event, this is what it says:
06C 2 5
ST 68 34487 BL 2000 BODY
TR 940 VV PAINT
I'm guessing that's a '68 442 Juneau Gray car with black bucket seats? What is the "BL" assembly plant? And then the 2 and 5???
Just to confirm, my '68 has a TR code: 950 and a Paint code : R-2. So, that's a black bench seat in a Scarlet Red car with a black vinly top, correct?
Thanks

Tom, sometimes assembly plants did different things on the trim tag. Southgate CA was known for that.
BL is Linden NJ Fisher plant assembly which according to my books did not build 1968 F85 carlines.
940= black vinyl bucket seats
V-V = Juneau Gray upper and lower body
06C built 3d week June 1968
2 and 5 are Fisher codes for options that had to be accommodated at Fisher plant. Sometimes these were letters/numbers, sometimes different shaped punchouts.
If you're talking about the Sullivan book, it's riddled with inaccuracies, but at the time it was printed it was about as good as it got.

So basically, this tag is a fake? Or is it just a rarity? I guess in the end it doesn't really matter as I'm not doing anything with it. It just kind of piqued my curiousity.
