Where to connect my HEI on my 68 442.

Hey everyone. I was reading on 442.com about the HEI stuff..and I am still trying to sort out the wiring on my own 442. The power lead is right now hooked up to an empty 20A spot on the fuse box (power relay acc) but is there a better place to put it? On 442.com the writer mentioned something about an IGN spot on the fusebox but I didn't see that anywhere. I just want it hooked up semi safe right now so I can sort everything out and when I replace all the wiring, things won't short out, or MELT. I guess hack jobs can't be avoided sometimes, but putting things right takes a lot more time lol.

On another note, would a pos. batt cable ment for a 400 be ok to use on a 455? I wouldn't think there would be much difference other than date codes on the wires, but I didn't know if they would be a thicker gauge.
Thanks in advance!

I hooked up my Summit HEI distributor to the IGN termianl on my fuse block. If you had an empty space on your fuse block and put a 20A fuse in it and ran 12V ignition to your HEI then you should be ok.

If you want "original" battery cables you should check out Fusicks. I just got mine from O'Reillys because I didn't care about originality

I used a wire direct from the junction to a relay on the firewall. Then, I used the original switched wire to activate the relay. That's the relay, just above the distributor, to the right of the regulator.

Where is the IGN terminal on the fuse block? Maybe that was something they added after 68?

The empty space I was talking about I think is for plugging in a power seat wire to or something I will take some pictures. I think when I got the car, the wire was just semi clipped to the 20A fuse holder.

I do not think the relay exists on my firewall... but it looks like a nice clean way to do it as well. I will shoot picts and you guys can see how big a mess my wiring is lol.

As for battery cables... I am not too worried about them being original types at the moment. I guess Advance will be my next stop.

Thanks guys!

He added the relay. He used the original resistor wire to excite the relay and took a good 12V source from another spot to give full voltage to the HEI for proper running.
