Have heard and seen ads for the Brad Penn oil. Who are they and what is so unique to their oil. I'm just about ready to "give birth" to my 455 and concerned about oils. Thanks,

I just rebuilt with a Melling stock camshaft. The instructions with the cam recommended Shell Rotella, among others. Says modern oils are formulated for roller lifters and do not contain enough anti-wear additive. Some thing I did not realize. Maybe I should be using it in all my old engines. I do use it in my diesels.

After some research I went with Mobil Delvac 1300 15w-40. From what I've read, lots of the other brands lowered their zddp, ie Shell Rotella T.

I've been told to use Shell Rotella 15w40 (conventional or synthetic.) It is high enough in zinc and has a lot of detergents in it. It's a high quality diesel oil and can be used in a car without a catalytic converter.

I like that it's not too expensive (Lucas oil and race oils here are super pricey), easy to find, and even our most famous retailer here (Canadian Tire) re-badges the fleet version of the stuff and sells it cheap, though it has fewer detergents, supposedly.

Exactly. I run 10-40 Royal Purple in mine. Expensive - Yes. I got it this year from Advance Auto for 1/2 off on a sale. I also still add a (little) zinc additive to it just because.

Run any oil you want and just add the additive.

Isn't that a chubby engine?
If so, that's too bad.
