Toro vs. 442 Quadrajet Differences Need Advice...

Reposted Here From The Tech Forums - anyone help on this?

Have an opportunity to buy a very nice looking reman '71 Toro Quadrajet P/N 7041252. Am needing it for the 72 455 4spd vert I'm doing with 402194 cam (W-31) E big valve heads, stock intake, and a 1111982 '70 442 distributor. What are the differences between an A body carb and the Toro version, and would this carb be even close in compatibility to this cam/head/intake/dist. combo? Not looking to run in the 12's - just want something for an occasional blast down the street.

Thanks!!

not a q-jet guru but i beleave the throttle lever /shaft is toro specific. it can work but looks different and sets higher to clear the low profile toro manifold.

I'm currently involved in a rebuild of a '69 Toro q-jet (7029252) and am using parts from a '69 4-4-2 q-jet (7029251) to have a complete Toro carb. Originally I was going to do it the other way around but the 51 carb was so far gone that I'm going to save the 52 carb instead. The main difference is the throttle linkage (driver side of the carb) - it's different between the two. The carb body has a different number stamped into it (51 for the 4-4-2 and 52 for the Toro) but they seem identical after that. Even the primary and secondary metering rods are the same for both carbs. Everything on the passenger side of the carb appears the same as well - including the Rochester part numbers stamped into them. What lunaboy said would work for my '69 carbs, but I don't know if this process would also work for the 70-72 period.
