Thank goodness for spray paint as it seems to have preserved the date on the inside of my OAI base. While cleaning it up wih lacquer cleaner I noticed a little green. I wiped a little more and it exposed the entire stamp, Shocked to say the least, and wonder why someone would cover such a mark in the first place?
I dunno. Some people look at it as just another car part. It's cool though that you didn't wipe off the actual date stamp. I've got one of those air cleaners out in the shop that appears it was repainted like that. I'll have to check to see if it has a date code still on it somewhere.
I think some use spray paint rather than a cleaning rag
It's certain I was lucky that I didn't wipe away the mark, I guess. The ink that was used to apply it must be something very special. Think of all the gasoline, carb cleaner and such that has been around this mark and it looks like it was applied yesterday--incredible.
By the way, I find no other marks on this '70 W30 OAI breather base. Is that the case? I thought there might be something else, but if it is there I can't find it. The top plasic piece has marks on the flapper door and the base too.

Yep, still just another part. Much of the hobby around restoring these cars confuses the hell out of me. Dude puts in 120K USD of time and money to never drive it and leave it in a garage. That just kills me. I am the other guy.

Same date as mine. What is the build date of your ‘70. Nice to see another base stamp in green, too.
I may have misspoken about spray paint covering this date as it could very easily have been dirt, grease and gunk combined. However it looked like paint to me at the time. Whatever it is, I'm thankful for it!
WThirty1, my W30 trim plate is stamped 02D. Any idea the significance of the 1 prior to the 343? Regards.

My car is 02D as well. PM me your body number and we can figure out how close they were.
As for the 1 on the base, I would guess either the shift (though I’m not sure I have seen a 2) or the vendor.
