Getting ready to paint

Iam getting ready to paint my 1968 442 w-30 convt. I bought the car off the original owner 3 years ago. I was one of six interviewed before they would sell the car. They picked me because I love oldsmobile. He ordered the w-30 triple white stripe delete and hup caps with white walls. This is not how I would of ordered, not loving the color what to change it to dark blue to show off the white top and interior. Will this hurt the value of this car or help it. Like to hear your opinion. Thanks

To do a color change correctly is a lot of work. If you can tell when it is repainted the original color is white without looking at the tag, I think it detracts from it's value.
But color is a personal thing, and as I understand it there are no records to determine how many triple whites there are and if it was rare.
Just my .02 It is your car. I like a triple white convert.

If you have any paperwork to prove it's a W30 it will kill the value. If you don't have any paperwork to prove it's a W30 it will cloud the authenticity. Either way it's not a good move IMO

I would go original as well. I repainted my 70 W30 a different color (Sebring Yellow to Matador Red) 30 years ago and have regretted it since.

They interviewed people? Did you have to submit references? Take a lie-detector test? How did you prove your love of Oldsmobile?

I'm interested in what documentation you might have about the stripe delete. 1968 W-30 cars normally came with the W36 stripes (and relocated fender emblems).

If you have docs to prove the color...LEAVE IT. I always say a car done right in any original color looks great. I have recieved nothing but thumbs up on leaving my car the way it was born

I have a 65 Corvette Coupe, It was originally maroon with saddle interior. When I bought it in 76 it was black/black. I painted it the original Milano Maroon and put repo saddle interior in it. I love the interior color but i hated the maroon. Im not a fan of many cars being red or maroon colored. So about 6 years later I painted it 67 vette Sunfire yellow- loved it! That paint job looked good for a long time, it also went well with the saddle interior. When it started needing another PJ I decided to paint it deep metalic green also good with the saddle. I used a 2000 GM color, it has gold metalic in it. I really love it!!! There was a similar color in 65 but it used a silver metalic.
My point is, and yes i know W30's are rare, and amazing cars. Its only paint. If your going to try to win top honors with the car then keep it original. If not then please yourself, paint it any color you like. It can always be changed back. If you plan to drive the car, as we all know things happen. Rock chips, people to close to careless to think, or care. I try to keep my vette safe but i like to drive it and its just not always possible. The 67 442 Im building is originally red, I dont want red, I will paint it Tahoe Turquoise which is an original color. No its not a W30 (wish it was) but it will look damn good and i will love it.
Again if its going to be only a trailer queen show car then keep it all original. If you want to win top honors at Olds nationals, keep it original. If not then please yourself.
Its only paint and most cars will need a repaint sometime in their life if there drivers.
Please yourself.

I'd have to go with the original color. You know it's a 4-4-2 and you have a pretty good idea that it's a W30. I believe the original color optimizes the value of a car like that. Some say it's only a paint job, but when a paint job costs $10K-$15K, I believe it's more than "just" a paint job! Personal opinion, so please don't fire all the arrows at me!!!
