Getting my Olds ready for the track

So I finally swapped in a used set of 3.42 gears and open carrier and spiders out of a 85 Astro van to replace my destroyed 3.42 gears from exploding spider gears. I cleaned the housing out good but think there still may be some filings. I should probably inspect everything before the slicks go on and maybe fresh gear oil depending on what I find. Changed the oil and will change the fuel filter and blow out my air filter. I have a goofy but OK problem with the junkyard TH2004r. With a stock Governor is shifting 4500-5000 rpm all gears. Gets up to speed fine and should be near ideal for the track. I loss all the gears except first as I let off the throttle. Pull over and shut off and all is normal. I am using a universal TV cable and all the shifts are nice and firm under normal driving. I checked the Governor and no binding and put the springs back where they were originally were, no difference. I also may need to limit my HEI, the parts for my $500 ignition might not come in time. I will do a seperate post. I hoping mid- low 9's with this set up.
