Wrong rear bumper on my 442. Bought one on E_BAY. 372.00, Shop in hometown will send it off and straighten it, Bring it back and triple chrome it for 510.00.. 880.00 Total! Is that too much?

 

I guess it depends on where you live and how far it needs to be shipped. I'd say that if you don't have any in-town or close-by re-chroming shops, then looking at shipping a bumper to/from, that's not too bad. I think general rechroming runs anywhere from $300-$500 (or sometimes more) depending on the location and the quality of the rechroming. So, all in all, I don't think it's bad.

Where you located? I also have a '69 (but certainly can't boast about the condition as you can...) and need the rear bumper rechromed. Finding a local place here in Seattle's a little trickier than I thought. I've heard of core exchange with online parts suppliers, but I'd feel better about taking it to a shop in person.

Its a lot but probably realistic depending on how rough the core was. I just paid 400.00 to have my slightly dinged up with no pits at all 66 rear bumper done. I could easily see it costing more if my bumper had been rougher.

 

Since we are on the topic, I have this bent, rusty thing in my attic. Does anyone think it can be straightened or re-chromed? It should fit my '72.

 

Ray, that bumper looks pretty rough. If the rust is all the way through it might not be worth repairing.

 

You can get a show quality from 'Brothers' or possibly 'Year One' for about $645.
I bought one 8 years ago and it looks absolutely great. Of course it only cost about $400. back then.
These are show quality bumbers, better than original.

 

69 REAR BUMPER ARE HARDER TO FIND. YEAR ONE BUMPERS START @ 1970
