Correct air cleaner for 67 442

Hi, What is the correct air cleaner for a 67 442 with an automatic? I'm told it is the chrome "closed" unit with black flat base. Are they the same going back to 64 and 65? Also will it fit on an edelbrok carb?
Thanks for the help,
Gary

The pictured unit was used on the automatic 442 in '66 and most of the way through '67. Late in '67 they used one with no snorkle and a smaller diameter base that let air in around the entire base. '65s (auto and stick) were basically the same, except the snorkle was on the passenger side. '66 and '67 stick 442s had a chrome top open element unit. The stick air cleaner will not fit an Edelbrock carb, and I doubt the auto one will.
Oh, and '64s had a red painted dual snorkle unit that is now *very* expensive.

Thanks for the info. I won't waist my time or $ with it as I have an open element ait cleaner on it now. I also have the 68 -69 air cleaner that came with it. It has a 68 motor.

I am so glad you left this information. I have the chrome lid, but no base. With all the bases I have found the lid seals perfect, but how in the hell is air let in? Do you happen to know where I can find the smaller base?

Remember that the 64-5 442 used a Rochester 4-jet with a smaller air horn mounting surface than the 66-7 Quadrajet.

67 4 speed air cleaner

I need a chrome lid for my 67 4 speed 442,I do have the correct open element air cleaner base. I'm told it is the same as corvette but haven't located one yet. seems 67 air cleaner parts are hard to find.

The lids and bases are the same ones widely used by Chevy (Chevelle, Nova, Camero) and Corvettes that have QuadraJets. You'll pay more for a "Corvette one" though!
They are repopped and can be had by all the larger Chevy parts suppliers. Lid are not *exact* but close enough for all but the closest scrutiny.
