Anybody knows what the Vaccum Canster on 1968 442 Convert

I'm doing a frame off restoration on my car and noticed a vaccum canster next to heater box mounted on the fire wall. What is it main purpose?????

I've notice most AC cars have them in, but I also notice that none AC cars have them to. My car is non AC car. Dose have to do with HighPO motors for the brake booster. Like W-30 and Hurst.

If anybody knows it would be great!

The vac canister might have been used with the vacuum remote trunk release, vacuum power door locks, or cruise control in addition to A/C.

In addition to any power acc. you may have it is necessary to have vacuume in reserve to operated the blend doors in your heater system so you can switch from floor heat to defrost.

'68 Cutlass heaters are manually controlled ie. bowden cables...the vacuum can on the firewall is for vacuum trunk release...
