I'm working on the trunk trim on my 66 442. The black paint around the letters has worn off. Does anyone know what paint is a good match to the original black?

semi gloss black from a rattle can works fine. Wipe it off the surfaces of the letters before it dries.

Use SEM trim black #39143 it has some acid in the paint that will etch the chrome so the paint will stick.

Thanks Hairy Olds -I had some concerns about the paint sticking without some type of etching. I'll check out the SEM.

 

I'll have to try that paint for my 66. I bought a bunch of Krylon's Satin black and have always thought it was a great match for many areas that needed freshening up.

 

wow, answered my question too! Thanks. Has anyone had any experiences repairing the back trim. Mine has a small crack in it, I intend to stop drill it, then attempt a repair using epoxy. I'll use the smallest drill bit when I stop drill it. Hope it can be repaired. except for the small crack it's pretty cherry.

 

Finally painted my trunk trim panel and I thought I would post some pictures. They're not the best but they'll give you a general idea of how it turned out. I used the SEM trim black #39143 as suggested above. I applied vaseline to the faces of the letters and the paint wiped off easily - pretty slick. I'm very happy with the results. - Mark
