Can anyone tell me how to read a build sheet? I have the original for my 442 but I don't know what all the symbols mean - I'd like to figure out what features this car originally came with so I can try to put it back together. Thanks much!

Nice to see a real build sheet for your car! Nice (and valuable) documentation to have. A '65 Cutlass Holiday Coupe with the 442 package, built in March 1965 in Fremont CA.
Should be obvious that all of the equipment listed came on your car. The * denotes equipment that comes on that model and with the 442 "package" option. The @ and $ denote extra cost options in addition to the basic model equipment and the 442 option, with the $ denoting interrelated options.
Not every i was dotted and t crossed on these forms, and not all of the plants used exactly the same codes.
The SF axle code is for a 3.23 Anti-Spin.

Oh, and to learn how to read build sheets, you need to take a class in BS.

Thank you! I thought that, but wasn't sure. It may have been obvious when the car was new, but this one is in pieces. I bought it from an estate, and the gentleman had been in the process of restoring it. The entire front clip is off, the doors, all the interior is stripped, the chrome is in a box. It now has a 455 from a 70-71 Olds, and a TH400 automatic. I haven't had time to inventory the pieces, but at least this way I can have an idea of what might be missing other than the front bumper. Thanks again.

There is no guarantee that one is even in the car, but common places are under the back seat (top or bottom), on top of the gas tank, under the package shelf, under the carpet, inside the seatback of the front seats, or under the side interior panels.

 

Don't do this unless you enjoy aggravation and disappointment. I didn't find any paperwork but I did find some original dirt.

 

MyWildest, congrats on the new project! I too have a 1965 Fremont built 442but I've not started restoring mine. I have been collecting pieces for the last few years. If you get stuck on anything, or wonder "what in the world that is" let me know and I'll see what I can find on mine. There are several other 1965 442's on this board so hopefully there will be someone here to help with any problems that you encounter. John
