need your 3.91s

I do not have a 3.42 gear set for sale but if & when you do the gear swap I am interested in the 3.91 crown & pinion if they are in good shape. My new 1970 W-31 had them from the factory & now sports 3.42s & I would like to have the 3.91s on hand should I choose to go back that way.

Thanks

The good news is that the factory 3.91 and 3.42 ring and pinion sets use the same posi carrier. So if you can find some factory 3.42 gears, you don't have to replace the carrier. The bad news is it's not so easy to find factory gears. But don't let that stop you from looking. Put out a "Wanted" ad. I'm sure there's people who have swapped the other way.

The other option is to buy the Richmond 3.42 gears. The problem is these are sized to use the factory posi carrier which came with the factory 3.08 and 3.23 gears, and that's probably the hardest carrier to find.

The final option is to buy both carrier and gears from SuperCars Unlimited. They machine an aftermarket carrier (Ford maybe?) to fit the Olds housing.
