"If" it is broken, there's a possibility you can use a very long decking screw or a extra long lag construction wood screw to insert into the broken tube, a couple turns on the screw & extract the tube. Fingers crossed. Good Luck.
Yeah once I saw that I was sold I have not done anything with the motor yet waiting on my new ignition to get here but it has a holly double pumper on it so I think this guy might have been taking this car to the local drag strip so it might have a beefed up 455 in it.
Regarding that Chevy 12 bolt rearend, it reminded me that back in the 80s a local guy had a 1970 W-30 4 speed that he regularly tracked and broke the carrier on the original O-Type 3.91 rearend, so he swapped in a Chevy 12 bolt. Prolly a similar situation with your drag car.
Nice find!! Are you changing color, or what is the original color? Should be a real looker once you're finished.
Any updates?
Original paint code was black going with a black gold color scheme on the rebuild with a scooped glass hood.
Updates are trunk pan is replaced floor pan on drivers side replaced passenger side had a few spots that we patched getting ready to do some patch work on the inner fenderwells in the passenger rear install a new trunk dropoff.
Took the rear bumper off today to do some metal fabrication installing the dual cutoff 442 bumper once its repainted.
Got the interior order from legendary interiors looking for a good dash to replace the worn dashpad it currently has.
And no I was unaware of the period correct steering wheel but this one isc already installed so ill just stick with that .
Just glancing at this thread, you're still going to either need to replace the core support or repair the area(s) that someone cut up. Because there's a single screw holding the center portion of the plastic grille center section on 71/72 that goes right at the tip. Without it, it'll have a tendency to flop around.
I had the former body shop manager of the Monroe Olds shop come look at this car in person this is a 71 442 with 70 fenders hood and grills the core support is a 71 core support we confirmed this earlier in the thread do you honestly think I would leave the front end looking like that?
Outside of surface rust there is nothing wrong or date incorrect with the core support itself new glass hood new grills new new Fenders are all being ordered.
