Classic/Antique Car Insurance

Looking for any recommendations for classic/antique car insurance. Have been doing some research on Grundy and Hagerty. Anyone have any good or bad experiences with a particular company ?

I use Grundy for maybe 12 years now and had a claim a few years ago though it was a claim against another company that messed up my car, they handled it very well.

Grundy is completive on pricing and very good on mileage allowed (no limit) on their agreed value policies but check out the piacular that pertain to your car..... Tedd

Grundy here as well for over 10 years - their policy doesn't restrict mileage, which is a plus for those of us who drive our classics more than just to and from the next cruise in show. No real driving restrictions but for school or work-related travel.

Pricing is good and coverage is agreed value which increases every year without inspection requirements.

I have had or have both. Both paid off small claims with no issues! Grundy is a little cheaper and would also insure my Alero under a classic insurance. But they hit the Alero at 2.5 times more on the the pricing with only 60% of the agreed value of my 70 Supreme. But the Alero is way cheaper the regular insurance.

Thank you for starting this thread. I've only had my 1967 CS 442 for a little over a year now, so I just paid my 2nd premium with Hagerty, which by the way did not increase. There were no questions asked by Hagerty on the "agreed to value" I requested which I liked. I haven't filed any claims. No complaints at all about Hagerty, but based on other guys' responses I'm going to take a look at Grundy.

I have owned my 66 Cutlass for five years. I use Hagerty for my 66. Have had no claims or any kind of increases. Their customer service group is very pleasant and helpful on a question.

DON'T use Hagerty!

Read about my experience with them here (post #21 it's resolved):

https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...ed-tow-130728/

I've gone to American Collectors for my 71 98 and my 86 F250. I'm very happy with their service.

I have used Hagerty for years but then switched to American Collectors Insurance Company. Hagerty kept raising their rates every year and AC is about half the cost for higher stated value.

I have had American Collectors for seven years and am satisfied. I have had a couple of towing claims they paid quickly.

American Collectors here. Unfortunately I did have a claim with them. Submitted detailed estimate, lots of clear photos, claim was settled promptly with no hassles. Very pleased with their service.

Just make sure you ask about who can drive your car! I wanted my son to be able to drive my car, he was not covered under my American Collectors policy. I really liked them by the way! Even if my son had coverage under my normal auto insurance he was not covered to drive my Olds.

I ended up calling my regular auto insurance and added it as an antique. Because my son is covered under my x-wife's policy they told me he would be covered. Occasional driver of course.

I have seen JC Taylor in action.
Buddy got rear-ended hard stopped behind a school bus taking his 5 out of storage for its inaugural spring ride home(dumb azz texting).
Car was bent hard up to the back glass, and he was hurt. Custom House of Colors paint with flip/flop flames. Real nice Cali clean 55 BelAir.

JCT took care of everything. He was able to choose the body shop. JCT said they will let the body shop try to blend the paint and If he didn't like it they would pay to repaint the whole car. The painter did a wonderful job with the blend Didn't need to do the whole car. Car is like new like the accident never happened.

i have had collector cars for over 50 years and have priced 8 or 10 different cars with both of these places and found out the the insurance company that i have my home and two of my personal cars would quote me the same or cheaper price plus i was able to take the collision off in winter while they sat in garage. they are all good but you have to feel a little safer with the company that has your back for everything. just saying

Must be state dependant?
Whenever I inquire about it with my bundled home/daily car/umbrella policies it's usually significantly higher and it's not an agreed value policy.

But I haven't inquired in a few years maybe the big companies are finally getting it, the loss of revenue that is.

I'm more comfortable with specialized insurance. Especially with the outstanding customer service, I'm hearing here and other classic car sites, from all the popular ones when a claim was submitted. No BS.

I would have to agree on the state dependent thing. I have checked multiple times into using my primary insurance company and the rates and coverages are never as good. My cousin is also an insurance agent for one of the top primary insurance companies and told me to always choose one of the collector car insurance companies for unique and classic cars. I've not been disappointed to date. When I switched from Hagerty to American Collectors---my rate went down 60%. It was a good move for me. I'll be insuring my 442 with them shortly as well.

I currently have six vehicles with J. C. Taylor... Never had to make a claim, but rates are very reasonable... Liability insurance is free after the fourth vehicle...

I have had Hagerty for 20 yrs or so on the 71 Cutlass, Also had it on a 65 Dodge, 70 Vista Cruiser, and a 56 F100. Never had any claims except on a windshield chip on the Cutlass, which they handled great, allowing me to have the body shop of my choosing replace it. ( I wanted to make sure there wasn't rust and I thought maybe some normal windshield replacer would just gob it up with RTV and let it go). You know, I'll bet these companies love us old guys and our old cars- probably very low claim rates- I'll bet mostly loses from fires/floods/etc.

I have Grundy.have not had any claims, during my search their rates were the best for my vehicle, during my research I had some questions and called their customer service line they answered promptly and answered all my questions and were very professional, when I made my decision they mailed all documents promptly and kept me advised by e-mail of the progress.

Most importantly make sure your agreed policy is current with current market values.

When I started this muscle car thing in the 80s my car was worth 8G. Now a decent parts car is most of that.
Think $100-150/hr labor + parts n materials. 100-200-300 hrs to repair a bad hit you do the math, Sideswiped, frame damage et al easily will exceed that working towards a total loss.
