Classic Car Insurance Source

Anyone have a good (fair prices, reputable,) insurance company? I would like to explore insuring for a value greater than Auto Club offers. A low mileage original 72 Cutlass S is not exotic enough to quaily for classic coverage with AAA. If it was a 60s Mustang or 55 Chevy worth over 15k, they are interested.

I live in Southern California and any leads would be appreciated.

It could be that I will learn that my car is not worth as much as I think.

American Modern insurance will do it for you. If you need a rep let me know. I found out folks I know on other forums who live in other states use the same rep here in Illinois that I use.

Do any of the classic car ins. companies have policies for everyday drivers? Years back I tried to get a policy and no company would sell me one unless I drove my car very few miles per year.

I don't believe so, though I'm not sure. One of the reasons that they can offer lower rates for low usage cars, is that with reduced driving there is a less chance of an accident hence, a claim.

Hagerty has amazing rates and no milage limits - only rules are: you must also own a "normal" car with "normal" insurance and the classic car must be kept in a locked garage

I had a little trouble with Hagerty because I have a company truck as a daily driver and my wife's car. I actually had to show them a copy of my offer letter from my company stating that I had a company vehicle.

They are the easiest by far to deal with when getting the insurance. Hopefully I'll never have a claim although they have a great reputation for that too. I have Liberty Mutual for all my other insurance. They wanted a certified appraisal to insure the 442 and the rate was almost double Hagerty. Hagerty just wanted pictures

X2.
Very good prices from them, too.
Never had to work a claim with them (and hope I never have to), but the ones I heard about who did, did not have any major issues.

I use JC Taylor, however I don't think any of them will insure a daily driver. I know alot of the insurance companies will put full coverage on an old car but then you would have to fight with a claim.

I have Safeco Collector, They paid a total claim after having the policy for only about a week. Great rates, high agreed value and had no issues with a total loss. But, if yours is a daily driver you can not go the Safeco collector route

I had a glass claim for a wind shield and it couldn't have gone any smoother.

how it works in England.

I have classic car insurance for my '87 Olds Delta -it qualifies over here as it is an unusual car!. Many others have similar policies, by agreeing to an annual mileage of 3000 or less I make huge savings. My normal insurance for my daily driver costs me £420 ($600), for my Olds it is £125 ($180). I keep it on my driveway, if I had a garage to keep it in I could save even more.
I also have an "agreed value" for the car as. This is particularly useful as if the car gets wrecked it avoids argument about the cars worth.
For high value classics such as fins'n'chrome or muscle cars as well as old Jaguars, Rolls Royce and the like a valueation inspection is usually required as well.
Rates are low because classic owners normally drive their car in a very risk averse manner, it's all very well getting the full worth of your car if it gets wrecked, replacing it with another similar model is unlikely to be straightforward.
I hope you find the cover you need at a fair price.
Good luck!.
Roger.

Grundy is another that offers unlimited mileage. Most of the classic insurers won't let you drive to work and you have to have another car. Right now I have Hagerty but checked rates on the net & Grundy is (a lot) cheaper so will change in June when it comes due. Check the prices. You can save half.

My insurance was just up for renewal so I thought I would check around. I got several quotes and all were fairly close except Hagerty. They were $100 higher then the rest. This was for 2 Olds and a 93 Mustang conv.

Classic/Antique Insurance

Hi Everyone,
I use Infinity Insurance for my 81 Olds 98 Regency.
They allow me 6000 miles a year (last year drove 185 miles), also I have glass coverage, full tort, high limits, collision and insured for value of auto.
It costs me $100 per year its a great deal and a they have been around a long time!

Antique and Classic Car Insurance

I probably pay more than I should, but I insure with Hagerty.

We have an "Agreed Value" policy which will eliminate the haggling in the event of a total loss, such as happened to Jamesbo.

I have heard so many good reports that Hagerty is the best insurer to use, that I stopped looking at other company's.

I switched to Heacock last year. They have fine to deal with and have what is called a 9-5 policy to allow you to drive your car to more then just shows. It is a bit more then the traditional collector policy but much lower then the traditional insurance carriers. I believe the policy may be limited. Can't hurt to check it out.

I went with Haggerty because I could not find any bad reviews online about their handling of claims. After all, that is why we insure,in case we need to file a claim.

Insurance Providers

Thanks for all the good information. Based upon the responses, there are a number of providers who can give me the coverage I'm looking to have.

Appreciate all the good info. I'll make some calls and see who has the best plan for my needs.

Thanks for information. Your rate sounds very reasonable. What is the mileage limitation/restrictions for that rate?

I use the same insurance company as I do for everything else, Liberty Mutual. I get stated value of $25K for $260 a year, full coverage 0 deductible.

I cannot recall in the 17 years I have owned and had the car insured with them, ever being asked about my mileage or told of a mileage restriction.
