Lugnut Brands

Hey guys. What are some good brands of lugnuts I could use for my 14" SSII's? I'd like to pick up 20 closed end acorn style with locknuts. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure the size is 12 x 1.5..?

Not sure on the size but I usually just buy lug nuts from the local parts store. Just bring one of your originals to match the threads to with a replacement stud. They usually have a decent selection plus sell locknuts too. Never had any issues

Yeah, Dorman's probably got your size in boxes of 20.

Yes I picked up Dorman's yesterday actually with the locknuts. Closed end acorn style. I'll let you guys know how they snug up.

Well, they went on great, but now the inside lip of the rims in the front are scraping against the control arm. I'm thinking of putting on some 3/8" spacers.. any other ideas?

What else did you change besides the lug nuts? Or where these wheels never on the car?

I would never use spacers on my car. Did you change to aftermarket wheels? If so, make sure they are the right size.

Spacers would remove that much stud from the nut wouldn't it?
Other ideas? Use correct fitting [factory] wheels comes to mind.
Straying gets into ugliness like this pretty quickly.

Don't run spacers on stock lugs.

A 3/8 spacer means 3/8 less thread engagement on the lug nut, bad idea. You would have to get longer studs, while using a spacer, to maintain thread engagement. But too long a stud, and you may bottom out the closed end acorn lugs you have before they are able to clamp down on the wheel.

You're better off getting the correct wheels.

Spacers are a highly opinionated topic. I run a 1/4" spacer on my front wheels, but I also have aftermarket 3" lugs and open end lug nuts. I would never run a 1/2" or larger spacer. Just personal opinion.

Update, re-reading your original post, I would think 14" SSII's would fit. Hmmm....

If you have aftermarket wheels and bought them from a local shop you should be able to go back to them and tell them they don't fit correctly. They should make it right for you. You can always try printing out the sheet from the Summit website and showing it to your technician. If you don't feel comfortable doing the measurements yourself it's something that any tire tech should be able to do.

My previous wheels were stock steel 14x6's and the new ones are Olds factory 14x7 SSII's. They are not aftermarket, they are original, and came off something in the 1969-70 range. I was very surprised to learn they didn't fit considering most Olds parts are so interchangeable. While the rears fit fine with a fingertip of space in between, I found the fronts were rubbing against the tie rod and caliper. I went to a local shop this weekend and they installed 1/4" spacers which did the trick. I'm not the biggest fan of spacers but I also do no racing whatsoever. The fastest I go is 85-90 once in a blue on the highway. The lugs were fastened to 6 full turns on the stud and the mechanic said anything over 5 was acceptable.

It is not far from me if you are interested. I am willing to bet shipping will be impressive.

I hope OP has solved his problem by now, seeing as the thread is nearly seven years old.
