68-69 442 Cutlass SSII wheel details

Hey guys, I’d like to know specifically for my 68 442 what the correct rims should look like. I’m aware that 68 and 69 were painted Argent grey and the rims are shallower than the 1970s rims. In 68 did they have the aluminum bezel rings, cuz some bezel opening edges I see have been painted silver. Also the trims rings I have seen have had a stepped edge and some a rounded edge. Anyone know exactly what came from the factory? Thanks —Billy

1968 SSII wheels were 14x6, used stainless trim rings but did NOT use the five bezels around the openings. There was a silver-painted lip instead.

And I would say your trim rings look correct as well. Here are some shots of an original SSII trim ring on my niece's '68 - kind of a brushed sort of finish with the four rim clips.

My experience with those trim rings is that one of the clips ALWAYS lines up right on top of a wheel weight.

Thanks. I haven’t taken them off yet to clean. Now I know what to expect. Just curious - was 69 the exact same rim snd trim rings? —Billy

Can anyone recommend a brand of paint to touch up the argent grey rims? I want a correct match because I only need to touch up little nicks and scratch’s. Thanks. —Billy

Oh an additional question for y’all: Im taking off my 7” wide rims to put the correct argent grey 6” rims and on the rears I found this spacer. Is the reason for it being there to push the old wider tires out away from the exhaust pipes? And should I leave them in there even for the 6 inch rims? Thanks. —Billy

As was suggested to me, the Seymour cast blast worked out well.
