I’m also curious which factory 15x8 wheels you’re wanting to widen. Yes most steel (and aluminum) factory wheels can be widened. The easiest way is to cut the center and simply reinsert into a hoop of preference. Of course this needs to be done minding the runout to remain true. Some wheel builders will mate two hoop halves to accomplish the desired width. I had inquired with Stockton wheel about doing tens and they wanted to cut eights to make tens. I think this is rather wasteful and adds points of joint failure though personally. If you’re doing a typical Rally Olds wheel, the drop inside the hoop is not typical and this is why it can be a challenge merely sourcing the parts. There used to be several vendors that offered the service, but I think the wave trend of big aftermarket wheels on old cars has kind of killed the demand. Stockton is still around, Marsh Racing may still do it, McWheels in Iowa seems to be MIA. Good luck

Do you have a part number? I'm still looking for a source for wheel rims with the correct ID to accommodate the SSII/III centers. I've got a stash of 14x7 bolt-in center wheels that really want to be made into 15" wheels.

I ran into this years ago, the drop in the Speedway shell is not correct for our Olds centers. I just got blindly lucky with my Hurst replicas as a previous builder had three tens from his business that survived a fire. That is why I had previously mentioned the difficulty in acquiring the pieces to accomplish the conversion. I do believe that there is a DOT certified wheel shell producer that does this, but alas they are not going to go to the trouble for 2-6 units. I feel you’d need to buy a pallet of one specified size to justify the order.

Might have been U.S. Wheel?

I might be interested in a couple 15x10. I'll watch this thread in case it moves to potential group buy.
So we need to find DOT hoops as well as a company that might do the work, as it may not be the same provider?

Many years ago I had both a pair of 15X8 and 15X10 wheels made up in Portland Oregon. They cut the centers out of some 1968-69 14x6 wheels and put them in new hoops. I'll see if I can remember the name of the company and if they are still in business.

That may have been Specialty Wheel.

Thank you Patton, If my memory serves correctly this was where I had sourced my 3 hoops. (Maybe on your advice).😉 If so, I don’t believe that he does them anymore but he would be able to validate my suggestion of US Wheel as a source for hoops in larger quantities. I remember that he had given me a source for future projects. They’re focus is now wire wheels.

As previously mentioned by Funkwagon455, I would try Stockton. They were the only place I found that would rehoop SSII centers, or chrome existing ones. In 2016 they charged $385 to rehoop an SSII center in chrome and $355 to provide a custom chrome wheel size with their own centers.
Obviously they aren't cheap but "cheap" and "California" have never been uttered in the same sentence anyway....lol
