wheel studs
wheel studs
Good day to everyone. 1971 Olds cutlass supreme. 1/2" wheel spacers in the rear. Rear wheel studs( 7/16-20) extend out from the rear brake drums only .870 inches. My concern is the lugs, when tightened, could use more thread engagement. Right now only 7 or 8 full turns when torqued to specs. Anyone have a source for extended studs? Would like another 5/16 or 3/8 length stud, which should give me 10 to 14 full turns. Probably silly, but I'd feel better. Thanks, in advance, for any help. George
I don't know the spec knurl you need, but Summit Racing has a wide variety available.

Monzaz, has a good variety of wheel studs. I'm somewhat of cautious person as i've aged, so i'm staying stock at the present time. Oil pan gasket and rear main seal turned out well. The ford y-block neoprene rear main fit great. Monitoring the timing chain / gear . No audible chain slap that i can discern. Car is babied, so far so good. Wary eye nonetheless. Great car.

Friend had some older aluminum tires and rims. Went to install Aluminum rims on the rear. Wheel studs were only engaging 9 threads. Aluminum wheels slightly thicker than my SS2's. Found Dorman p/n 610-259 are 7/16-20 wheel studs with correct spline size that are 3/8" longer than my stock rear wheel studs. This gave me a thread count of 14+ once studs and aluminum wheels installed. Standing back and looking, mounted aluminum wheels were ugly in my opinion. Went back to my color matched SS2's. Acorn lugs still fit fine. Saving money for 15x8 SS1's.
