Tire Size on 10"

Hey Guys I saw pictures of this 442 clone for sale and I have to say I love the look the steelies and poverty caps give this car.Couple of thoughts ; does any body know this car ?and can anybody tell me what size of a tire that looks like? I read that the rears are 15x10 " but it doesn't mention what b.s the rims have
I know Wheel Vintiques sells a 15x10 but only with 4.5 " b.s ,if those are 295/50/15 I beileve you need a 5.5" b.s to fit that tire in the wheelwell without it sticking out past the fender. This is the look I want to go with my car. Thanks

Pick the rim width to match the needs of the tire. For example, most prefer 8" on the 275-60-R15. BS will have to be exactly correct if the tire fills the wheel well. Marsh Racing Wheels can make whatever offset your need, and so can a few other places. Standard weight 15x10 wheels may weigh 34 lb!

Hey thanks Ill have to have a look around for someone who runs that combo on their car
and ask about the optimum B.S to get the tires tucked in the wheel well

A search will help as others have discussed the topic on this site. I can tell you about the 66 but not other years.

I run a 15x10,with 5.5" backspace, and the tire size is 325/50/15.That is the biggest tire you will fit under a 70-72 Cutlass/442,without any modifications. The 15x10 rim MUST have 5.5" backspace.

Thanks Brian ,that tire is even bigger than I thought you could use on a A body. What kind of a rim did you use for that tire? Aluminum or steel ?

My 72 has aluminum Weld wheels, but I have had stock 15" rally that were widened to 10",for another car.The most important thing is the backspace. It has to be 5.5" with a 10" rim,for it to fit under there correctly.

I have 17x11 wheels w/6" BS and 315 tires on my 72. The 70-72 Cutlass bodies have a lot of room. I have run several sets of 15x10 wheels over the last 20+ years and I always made sure the BS was 5.5" so I could fit 295-50 tires on my a body cars and it always looks great!

I haven't found any sites that offer a 15x10 with a b.s of 5.5 " in the steel rim to fit the GM
bolt pattern 5x4 3/4 ,only the Corvette Rally wheel .I don't want to get into the widening process ,just means more dollars.

The new SSI's from Wheel Vintiques can be ordered with different backingspacings and widths.

I put a set on the back of one of my previous cars.

I just have to decide what tire I'm going to go with first ,my rear tire is 27 in tall now and if I go to a 295 it'll be shorter and increase the rpm at 55mph but if I go with a 275 its 28"
tall which will reduce the rpm at 55 .OTOH i'm not sure if either tire really makes that much of a difference we're only talking about 100 rpm either way,but it will make a difference as to which width of a rim I use.
