Best Tire/Size for stock 1968 15" Toronado Wheels

The "Stock" tires on my car are 235/75/15. They must be 20 years old, starting to dry rot, and corner very poorly. Can I, or should I, go to a 70...someone even suggested that I go to a wider, 255/70/15. I'm also looking to keep the tire in a traditional whitewall...what's my best bet?

You should be able to find a 225/75R15 whitewall even though a lot of tire stores have to order that size. I'm currently running 225/75R15 Uniroyal Tiger Paw white letters on my 69 and ground clearance and speedometer calibration are good.

My experience running 255/70R15 on the 69 Toronado was that once in a while you'd get some frame rub at full turn, and it seemed to be worse on a right turn.
