Thin Whitewall Tires

Does anyone make a thin whitewall tire, in a radial, that replicates the original tires that came with the base 442's in 1970? I see a couple of tire companys make the bias ply, but I don't want to go back to those.

Coker Tires make a lot of nice reproduction tires. I hope this helps you.

I know goodyear makes a thin whitewall tire call the regatta. I think that's the name, I'm not sure. Also not sure what size you need but you might want to check it out first before Coker. It would be way cheaper. Hope that helps.

I've had great service from Diamond Back (www.dbtires.com) in both the white stripe and red stripe tires. They use a modern tire (so that you have today's technology) and then apply yesterday's look to it so that it appears correct for your vintage of car. The red stripes on my '68 4-4-2, as well as the white stripes on my '71 Corvette, all came from Diamond Back. I found their prices to be reasonable and their service was outstanding.

X3 on Diamondback. I bought my wide whites from them. They have a better product the Croker Tires which I had used before.

I've also heard good things about Diamond Back. I will probably buy some wide whites from them eventually.

just 1 caveat - they bundle 2 tires (or 3 ) together - if it's going to you, fine, but if it's being drop-shipped @ your tire place, the guy that signs for it may not know what is coming, and then you have a signed receipt that you did not get everything on.

Happened to me - I bought 5, only 4 came off the UPS truck

@ 1st Diamondback said "it was signed for" the tire place said "we signed and this is all we got"

Diamondback did send me a 5th tire, no charge, and no real fight, just a few phone calls.

It seemed they really wanted to help, and I think they ate the 5th tire.

That is good to know Jeff.

When you had your Diamondbacks mounted did you have a local tire place do it?

I did - I had Diamondback drop ship them to my Goodyear dealer - I think they charged me around $100 to mount and balance 5

America's Tire here in California offers a Fisk brand whitewall, which is produced by Michelin for them. Evidently available anywhere America's Tire or Discount Tire does business.

Not to be "late to the Party" BUT IF you have an "Expert Tire" anywhere near you; try there -- often times they have a Firestone Branded tire that's a thin white wall like you asked about originally and you can get these on sale usually for about $70 Per tire or so...Coker is great and I hear good things on DB BUT they're very expen$ive!! (I've even seen thin whitewalls at like Sam's Clubs and Warehouse clubs; but their sizes are somewhat limited.)

Good luck and let us know what you wound up going with!
