Possible Wheels for my CS

Hi, I was hoping someone who knows more than me (most people) about wheels can give me some advice. I am considering buying a set of 15 inch polished Torq rims. The sizes are 235/75 15 and 275/60 15, 15x7 in the front, and 15x8 in the rear.

Will these fit my 1971 Cutlass Supreme? They are brand new with caps and lugs. The man said he paid over $1500 all together. The ad is asking $1400 but I think he may come down a little tiny bit. I know it's a pain to get these shipped, mounted, etc. so at least I would not have to deal with that. Plug and play, if you will. My main concern is, will they fit and not rub or anything? I have stock 14 inch wheels on the car now. I'm not super worried about the speedo, we rarely even leave town with this car and honestly my wife and her friends drive it more than I do.

attached is a pic from the ad. Thanks! John

The front tire size you quoted does not exist, the rear tire in the picture looks wider than the 275-60-15, it looks like a 295-50-15 while the fronts may be a 235-60-15. Either way, if you have a discount tire near you, price what a set would cost new. I don't think your that far off vs the used.

Should ask the guy to double check the sizes? That's so odd. Also, does anyone have an opinion on the looks versus the stock wheels? I'm torn!

I like the torque thrust wheel line, very good quality. Look through this thread, you'll see that wheel on a few different cars.

Great thread Eric, thanks. I need to rethink this a little.

Or, this man should motivate me by lowering the price for those wheels! I have a discount tire just a few miles down the road, I will stop over there and price out a set. Now that I looked over that thread, I could probably;y go with a set of SS1s from Jegs and for around the same price!

Have a nice one! John

If they'll fit under a '69 Chevelle, chances are excellent they'll fit under a '71 Cutlass.

is that price for wheels and tires? , the wheels on Summit site are 135-150 each and if you buy 4 wheels and tires they mount and balance and ship , I've had the Cragar version for 40 years, Tim

I have American Racing TTOs on my 67 Delta with 235/70-15s on 7" wide wheels on the front and 275/60-15s on 8.5" wide wheels on the back. The 235/70 (not 235/75) are exactly the same OD as the 275/60. These are pretty tall tires - 28" outside diameter. They work in the large wheel wells on the Delta. The 235/70 is probably tall for the front of a Cutlass. You likely want 235/60 in the front. The 275/60s will work in the back.

They're used...so why would you pay a fraction less than the price of new and lose any warranties? Definitely a good idea to price out what the set would cost you installed and sourced new.

That is waaay overpriced for a used sed, regardless of the condition.

I bet they can come very close if not beat that price. Wheels and tires will come balanced and ready to be mounted.

Hi Tim, I like the way your green 1972 CS looks, can I ask what size wheels and tires you have?

Thanks Joe. It is looking like I would be much better off ordering new, there are several options I can go with and probably land somewhere around $1200. So I'm not stuck with the sizes of this used set I was considering. I'm not set on a particular vendor yet, but they all seem competitive.

With that said, I like the look of wider tires in the back, so what do you think would be ideal sizes for me? I am thinking 15x7 front and then 15x8 rear but I have a hard time figuring out the sizes of the tires. I guess having the same OD is best? I like the look of Tims, and other supremes I have seen as well.

Thanks, John

Thanks Tim, I checked it out and have found that this set is less new, from Summit than what the guy is asking for his used set.......

on the rear you can run 15x10 with 5.5" backspacing and 295/50/15 will fit with no rubbing. Front 15x8 4.5" backspacing and 235/60/15 for the staggered look.

Is there any downside to having the extra wide tires in the back?

I did it!

Hi guys, I did it, ordered a set of torq-thrust II, 15"7", 235/60 in the front and 15"x8" 295/50 for the rear. From Summit, $1225 mounted, balanced, lugs, stems and shipped. Everything was in stock so I should have them next week.

Thanks to all of you guys, for being good guys, and helping me figure this out, I will post pics as soon as they are on the car. If anyone lives in the Northwest Indiana/Chicago area, my 14 inch SSIIs are free to a good home. Let me know. Have a nice one, John

The SSIIs are a bit chipped up with red paint underneath. The Cooper tires have plenty of tread but are just starting to show a little cracking. I have a couple extra beauty rings and a handful of the little rings and maybe an extra center cap as well. I just know for sure that otherwise they would sit in my garage forever and go to waste so if some can use them let me know. Thanks, John
