Just wanted to reach out to the community and see if anyone out there has found aftermarket wheels which look close-ish to the SSII/SSIII wheels.

I'm tired of beating my head against the wall for 14" tires. I' refuse to use the BF Goodrich T/A's, I just don't like them,and to go from 235 to 225 seems silly on a car that already won't handle. Then the 60 series look small unlessthe rear springs are sagging.

Finding a set of 15" bolt on center cap wheels and nice trim rings reasonably priced if proving difficult. By the time I replace the trim rings, refinish them, I'm in the ballpark of a set of aftermarket wheels anyway.

I've found 16"+ SSI wheels, but no SSII. Nothing that even comes close. I wish I still had access to the lab at my old school, it'd model the program and toolpath and have the 6 axis CNC machine make me a set.

Anyone? Car is black, I like the matched black wheels. I'm open to suggestions/opinions.

 

I don't know about 16s but Wheels Vintique makes 15" wheels in 15x7, 15x8 and 15x10. Maybe you can call them and see if they could make a custom set of 16" for you.

15" has much better selection of tires than 14".

I run 15x8 245/60 and 15x10 295/50.

 

I think the 2010 Camaro wheels look similar to the ss3's

 

Why not a set of 15" ss3 w snap on Ctr caps they're more availible and much less expensive than the bolt on cap 15" s&s wheels

 

The new Camaro bolt circle is 5 x 120mm. 4.75" is 120.65mm. Yeah, that's a pretty minor difference, but it is a difference.

It'd really prefer to have a square tire setup so I can rotate them. MY DD has staggered tires and its a major pet peeve. But thanks for the lead!


Because for some reason when I look at 72 and down cars with the snap on center cap wheels I feel a sense of disappointment. The attention to detail was missed. They came with bolt on center caps. And I've heard of quite a few people with refnished center caps having them stolen from them.


Thanks for the link, but wow $660 for a wheel. Wow, that's way out of my price range. $2500 for a set of wheels is way out of my price range. But good to know they are available!

I agree the snap on ctrs are not as appealing as the bolt on ones but the difference in price between the 2 in 15" size makes up for it IMHO

Which begs the question, where can one buy the wheel hoops that fit the SSII/III wheel disks? I ask this because I've got a bunch of 14" SSII/III wheels with bolt-in centers and it would be nice to cut out those centers and weld them into 15" hoops.

 

I have had this done several times in the past. There are several companies and some individuals doing this but it gets very expensive! Shipping your wheels to them, they cut your centers out, buy new rim shells in your preferred size, weld your centers in, and ship them back to you. This will cost you more than buying originals. I have talked to several of these guys and there are not as many companies making the rim shells anymore so they are harder to get, cost more, and they only sell them in bulk. I may do some more in the future but they will only be a "one off" type wheel that is not available like my original style black painted 15x8 SSI's I have on my 70 flattop.
