Just a quick question for anybody who would know. Someone nearby me has 4 BF Goodrich P275/50-15 tires for sale mounted on 4 old style rounded spoke Cragar SS 15x8 wheels. Everything looks in really good shape. Anyone have any experience having this size tire and wheel combo on their 67 Cutlass/442? My stock OEM rally wheels are showing their age. Will they be rubbing on the fender wells? Or just look bad? I have P255/60-15's now on the rear with P235/60-15 in front.
Make sure to check the build date on the tires. This is important as tires generally last about 8-10 years even if they are just sitting in a garage. Here's a video on how to check. I have no idea as to the rubbing issue. With the tires I mean.
Well, for starters, you didn't tell us what car you were planning to put them on. But then again, the only cars Olds made were 1968-72 A-body cars, so I ASSUME that's what you are asking about...
In any case, 275/50-15s are a Honda-sized 25.8" outside diameter. They will leave a LOT of daylight in the wheel wells. By comparison, your 255/60-15s are 27.05" in diameter. Even your 235/60-15s are taller at 26.10" OD.
Also, what is the offset on the wheels? I suspect that even with the tiny diameter, you will have clearance problems in the front. These wouldn't be my first choice for an A-body.
I had 275 50 15s on the back of my 66 442 20 years back. As Joe P mentioned they are on the short side vs stock.
Luckily my ride had the traditional "Oldsmobile that looks like it has a spare engine in the trunk look". So diameter variance not so noticeable.
I thought they looked great and filled out the wheel well beautifully. But they are extremely heavy and slowed her down. And it wasn't because of the added traction... She was 2 speed Jetaway and 3.23 limited slip, with over 100,000 miles. Went from a peel out on a dead punch to a chirp. Now she accelerated as if I had someone in the car with me when I was alone. If the engine was fresh with a robust drivetrain probably not much of an issue...
